Box Score
The University of the Fraser Valley took an 82-68 victory over the Regina Cougars on Saturday night in Canada West men's basketball action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The victory improves No. 6-ranked Fraser Valley's conference record to 7-3 as the Cascades remain tied with Victoria for second place in the Pacific Division standings. Regina falls to 3-7 with the loss.
Kevon Parchment led Fraser Valley with 23 points and 12 rebounds, while Kyle Grewal also collected a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. Sam Freeman ended up with 14 points, while James York had 11 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Fraser Valley went with a six-man rotation for the entire game and didn't make a single substitution after Freeman fouled out with seven minutes left.
Frank Brown had 15 points for the Cougars, while
Darius Mole collected 14 and
Paul Gareau had 11 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Connor Burns also had 10 rebounds for the U of R.
After the two teams traded leads 11 times in the first quarter, the Cascades took control with a massive 18-1 run that spanned the final few seconds of the opening period and the first five minutes of the second. That gave Fraser Valley a double-digit lead that the Cascades held on to for the majority of the remainder of the contest.
The Cougars cut the deficit down to seven points with four minutes left in the third quarter, but would score only two more the rest of the way and three triples by Fraser Valley down the stretch prevented any thoughts of a U of R comeback.
Both teams will return to the Canada West schedule in early January.
