Jayde McFee (pictured) scored the lone goal of the contest just before halftime, giving the University of Regina a 1-0 win over No. 9-ranked Manitoba on Saturday afternoon in Canada West action at the U of R Field.

The Cougars have now opened the Canada West schedule with two consecutive victories, while Manitoba's conference record falls to 2-1-0 with the loss.

It looked like the teams might go into halftime mired in a scoreless draw after a first 45 minutes that had seen only two shots on net, but the Cougars were able to break through in injury time. Second-year midfielder Molly Glass sent a high lob into the box that McFee settled. After a pair of deft dribbles through the Manitoba central defenders, McFee tucked a shot past Bisons goalkeeper Chloe Werle to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

The Cougars were able to hang onto the slim 1-0 margin throughout the entire second half. Manitoba had one last chance to tie the game after Alison Kastner's high cross from the right found Selina Speranza, but U of R goalkeeper Stephanie Possberg came up with a match-saving stop off Speranza's effort.

Possberg made three saves to secure her second consecutive shutout for the Cougars, while Werle made a pair of saves in net for Manitoba.

Manitoba held an 11-9 advantage in shot attempts during the match, with Dena Yaghi and Daniella Scerbo leading the Bisons with four apiece. Cormier led the Cougars in shots for the second time in as many matches, ending up with five attempts at the Manitoba goal.

Manitoba will face Saskatchewan (1-1-0) on Sunday afternoon in Saskatoon, while the Cougars will be back in action at home against Winnipeg (0-2-1). Kickoff is set for noon at the U of R Field.
