Now ranked No. 3 in the CIS after a split last weekend during their West Coast road swing, the University of Regina's women's basketball team returns home this Friday and Saturday to host Prairie Division rival Alberta at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars (12-2) dropped a 61-58 decision to then-No. 9 Victoria last Friday, but followed that up with a 63-53 victory over a UBC team that came into the weekend ranked No. 5 in the nation. The U of R's split – combined with road losses by Fraser Valley to Calgary and Lethbridge – caused some major movement atop this week's CIS Top Ten, with Windsor taking over at No. 1 and Saint Mary's jumping up to the No. 2 spot. The Cougars fell one spot to No. 3, while Fraser Valley dropped all the way to No. 4 a week after being the top-ranked team in the CIS.

Two Cougars are chasing major career milestones, including fifth-year forward Lindsay Ledingham who needs just 28 points to become the 10th player in University of Regina history to register 1000 career points. Fifth-year post Brittany Read is also nearing a milestone, as she's only four rebounds shy of joining Jackie Moore and Chelsea Cassano as the only Cougar players to notch 600 career boards.

Michelle Clark continues to lead the Cougars in scoring, as she ranks among the conference's top 10 with an average of 15.4 points per game. Clark also leads the team in both assists (60) and steals (41) this season, while Read averages 13.9 points per game and is the team's leader in rebounds (108). Ledingham also averages in double figures (11.5 points per game), while Jennilea Coppola is tied for second in the conference with 55 offensive rebounds despite only averaging 15 minutes played per game.

Alberta (8-6) is also coming off a weekend split, as the Pandas lost to Thompson Rivers in overtime on Friday night before thumping UBC Okanagan 87-56 on Saturday. Though she isn't normally in the starting lineup, third-year forward Kendra Asleson leads Alberta in both points per game (10.6) and rebounds per game (6.4).

The two teams met once during the non-conference schedule, with the Cougars getting 20 points and eight assists from Clark in an 83-68 win back on Oct. 14.

Game time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday at the CKHS. Both games will be webcast live at www.canadawest.tv.

NOTES: The Cougars have won seven of their last eight games against Alberta in a string that dates back to the 2007-08 season ... this weekend's games will mark the first times since Nov. 17, 2006 that Alberta and Regina will play each other without both teams being ranked in the CIS Top Ten.
