Box Score
The University of Regina's women's soccer team's season ended on Friday night after a 5-1 loss to the University of Victoria on Friday night in a Canada West quarterfinal match in Victoria.
Jackie Harrison and Cassie Dennis both scored a pair for Victoria, while Emma Greig scored the other for the Vikes.
Molly Glass replied for the U of R, but it wasn't enough as the Vikes will host the Canada West Final Four next weekend.
Greig opened the scoring 17 minutes in after finishing off a nice play that built up following a long pass to the right side of the pitch. Victoria extended the lead in the 38th minute with Harrison's first goal, which came from the penalty spot after a foul inside the box by a Cougar defender.
Though the Cougars trailed 2-0 at the half, they battled back and cut the deficit in half in the 66th minute. Glass was given a pass down the right side of the pitch and tried a shot from well outside the 18-yard box. Victoria keeper Tanya Jones tried to get to the ball, but Glass's high shot was perfectly placed and gave the fourth-year midfielder her first career postseason goal.
But that was as close as the Cougars would come, as Dennis redirected a Harrison free kick past U of R keeper
Stephanie Possberg eight minutes later to restore the two-goal lead. Harrison added her second goal of the match in the 85th minute, and Dennis did the same in the 87th.
Possberg made seven saves for the Cougars, while Jones was credited with two saves for Victoria in the win. The Vikes will be joined in the Canada West Final Four by the winners of the Alberta/Fraser Valley, UBC/Calgary, and Trinity Western/Saskatchewan quarterfinals to be played on Saturday.
