Two of the top teams in Canada West women's basketball will meet this weekend as the No. 6-ranked Regina Cougars play host to the No. 4 Saskatchewan Huskies on Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
It'll be the second consecutive weekend that the Cougars will play the No. 4-ranked team in the CIS, as the U of R is coming off a road split with Alberta that dropped the Pandas from No. 4 to No. 5 in the rankings. Saskatchewan took the U of A's spot at No. 4 this week, moving up from No. 5 after two home wins over an improved Brandon squad.
It's a special weekend at the gym as the U of R will sell 22Fresh hoodies for $60 (plus tax) in the CKHS atrium on Friday night to support the Shoot for the Cure campaign. Saturday night will feature several initiatives on and off the court to support former Cougar player Crystal (Heisler) McGregor's battle with cancer. [

The Cougars will be without starting point guard
Sidney Dobner, who's out indefinitely after suffering a knee injury in practice last week. Dobner was replaced in the starting lineup last weekend at Alberta by
Madi Docherty, who played a career-high 32 minutes in the team's 74-58 win over the Pandas on Friday. Docherty is expected to continue in that role this weekend against the Huskies. She'll be joined in the starting backcourt by leading scorer
Nicole Clarke (13.0 points per game) and
Kehlsie Crone, while
Charlotte Kot and
Jennilea Coppola should start at forward and post for the Cougars.
Katie Polischuk,
Megan Chamberlin, and
Alyssia Kajati play big roles coming off the bench for the Cougars, who enter the weekend tied with Manitoba for second place in Canada West's Prairie Division with a 3-1 record.
Dalyce Emmerson has led or tied Saskatchewan in scoring in all four of the Huskies' games this season and ranks second in Canada West with an average of 19.3 points per game. She's also tied for third in the conference with 9.8 rebounds per game, has an impressive .705 field goal percentage, and is Canada West's leader with 12 blocks as the third-year post is among the early favourites for Canada West Player of the Year honours.
Kiera Lyons averages 14 points per game for the Huskies, while Desarae Hogberg has been a spark off the bench for Saskatchewan with 10.3 points per contest and a fine .471 three-point percentage through four games.
The two teams will tip off the weekend at 6:15 on Friday night with a slightly earlier start time of 5:00 on Saturday night. Both games will be broadcast live on
