It was Shoot for the Cure night on Friday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport and the University of Regina's women's basketball team celebrated with a 73-52 win over the No. 4-ranked Saskatchewan Huskies in Canada West action.

The No. 6-ranked Cougars used two big runs in the second half to swing the momentum in the game, as the visiting Huskies had led by as many as nine in the opening quarter. The U of R scored 11 consecutive points in the third quarter to take its first lead of the contest and opened the fourth with a huge 15-0 run to take control of the contest.

"I thought we responded well at the half after we started to follow the game plan," Cougars head coach Dave Taylor said. "They were shorthanded without Kiera Lyons and we were able to take advantage of it tonight."

Nicole Clarke (pictured) led the way with 24 points for the Cougars, who improve to 4-1 on the season and pull into a tie with the Huskies for first place in the Prairie Division standings. Clarke was 9-for-22 from the field, hit three triples, and also had a game-high six assists.

Jennilea Coppola chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds for the U of R, while Charlotte Kot had seven points and led all players on the glass with 10 rebounds.

Dalyce Emmerson led Saskatchewan (4-1) with 22 points and nine rebounds as the third-year post fell just short of a double-double, while Antoinette Miller added six points and six rebounds in 12 minutes off the bench for the Huskies.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS with a 5:00 tip-off time.
