Box Score

Despite career highs in both points and rebounds from fourth-year post Connor Burns (pictured), the University of Regina's men's basketball team suffered an 85-75 road loss to Calgary on Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gym on the U of C campus.

Burns was 10-for-19 from the field and ended up with 26 points and 16 rebounds to notch his fourth double-double of the conference schedule, but it wasn't enough to keep the U of R's slim postseason hopes alive.

Combined with Saskatchewan's win over Winnipeg on Friday, the loss almost completely eliminates the Cougars' chances of qualifying for the Canada West postseason.

Calgary led by as many as 15 points in the dying stages of the fourth quarter, but the Cougars went on a 9-0 run capped by a Frank Brown three-pointer to pull to within six with a minute left. That was as close as the Cougars would come, though, as Calgary (10-7) went 7-for-8 from the line in the final 50 seconds to seal the win.

Calgary's Thijin Moses was 10-for-15 from the field and tied Burns for the game high with 26 points. Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson had 19 points, 10 rebounds, and six steals, while Josh Owen-Thomas added 16 points for the Dinos.

Brown ended up with 16 points for the Cougars, while Paul Gareau had 14 points and Brendan Hebert had 10 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Calgary (7:00 p.m. MST).
