Box Score

Fifth-year Cougars Paul Gareau and Sterling Nostedt went out on a winning note as the University of Regina's men's basketball team won 70-61 over Brandon on Saturday night in Brandon.

Gareau ended up with a team-leading 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds to fall just short of a double-double, while Nostedt scored 12 points and tied his career high with six rebounds and Connor Burns scored 10 points and added 12 rebounds to notch his seventh double-double of the Canada West schedule.

Neither team led by more than six points in the first half, but the Cougars came out strong in the third quarter. The U of R went on a 20-2 run over the first five minutes after halftime and led by as many as 20 points in the third.

Brandon opened the fourth quarter with seven straight points to cut the lead to just six, but that would be as close as the Bobcats would come as the Cougars held them off down the stretch to notch their seventh conference win of the season.

Ilarion Bonhomme had a game-high 21 points for Brandon, while Jordan Reaves had 19 points and 11 rebounds to collect a double-double.

Gareau passed Kevin Gilroy for sixth place on the U of R's all-time scoring list in the win. He ends his career with 1319 points and a .600 field goal percentage, the highest of any Cougar that played more than one season at the U of R. Nostedt, who ends his career with a win in his hometown of Brandon, moved into sole possession of third on the U of R's all-time list with 131 career three-pointers made.
