Already with an automatic berth to the 2013 CIS Championship as the tournament host, the University of Regina's women's basketball team will play for a conference title this weekend at the Canada West Final Four in Calgary.
Though seeded as the No. 2 team in the Canada West Final Four, the Cougars actually come into the weekend as the highest-ranked team in this week's CIS Top Ten – Regina checks in at No. 2 in this week's poll, while Fraser Valley occupies the No. 3 slot, host Calgary is ranked No. 5 in the nation, and Alberta broke into the rankings at No. 10.
Friday's semifinals start off with host Calgary against provincial rival Alberta (6 p.m. MST), with the Cougars and Fraser Valley to follow at 8 p.m. The winners will square off for the Canada West championship on Saturday night, while the other two teams will meet in the third-place game.
The top two teams in this weekend's Final Four – not counting Regina, as the Cougars already have the host bid – will qualify for the CIS Championships from Mar. 15 though Mar. 17 at the U of R.
