Box Score
The University of Regina's women's basketball team pulled away from Lethbridge in the second half during an 82-56 win over the Pronghorns on Friday night in Canada West action at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Lindsay Ledingham scored a game-high 22 points for the Cougars, while
Michelle Clark scored 18 and
Alyssia Kajati ended up with a career-high 16 points and nine rebounds to fall just shy of her first double-double of the season.
Katie Polischuk also set a career high with 14 points, nine of which came in the first quarter alone.
Stephanie Inman was 3-for-4 from three-point range and led Lethbridge with 15 points as the Pronghorns drop to 10-8 on the season and fall one game back of Alberta (11-7) for the fourth and final Prairie Division postseason berth.
The first half was close throughout, featuring eight tie scores and five lead changes. Neither team led by more than four at any point during the first two quarters until the halftime buzzer, when Ledingham hit a three-pointer to put the Cougars up by five going into the break.
The Cougars put an end to the tight game in the second half, as the home side pulled away from Lethbridge with a 14-2 run early in the third quarter and never looked back. The U of R outscored the Pronghorns by a 23-10 in the third and 20-12 in the fourth.
Lethbridge's Kim Veldman scored 11 points and added 10 rebounds to collect the game's lone double-double, while Ali Cameron also chipped in with 11 points for the visitors.
The win clinches home court advantage for the Cougars in the first round of the postseason, as they'll host a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series on Feb. 22, Feb. 23, and – if necessary – Feb. 24. They'll host either the third-place or the fourth-place team in the Pacific Division for that series, with the winner advancing to the Canada West Final Four the following weekend.
The Cougars and Lethbridge will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Game time is set for 6:15 p.m.
