Box Score

The University of Regina and Trinity Western University played to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon in Canada West action at the U of R Field.

Neither defence yielded a goal despite some quality chances on both sides of the ball, especially in the latter stages of the second half. Cougar keeper Kacey McFee made six saves to secure her second shutout of the season, while Trinity Western backstopper Rachel Bedek was credited with a three-save clean sheet.

After a fairly tentative first half, the teams pushed the tempo in the second. Trinity Western generated a counterattack in the 64th minute which resulted in a Caitlin Haines shot from the left, but McFee was up to the task and made a save diving to her left. The Spartans also had a fine opportunity in the 82nd minute, but McFee took care of a dangerous cross into the box.

The U of R's best chance came in the 85th minute after Molly Glass found Meagan Cormier with a long cross to the right. Cormier settled the ball with Bedek off her line, but the fifth-year striker was at an extremely tight angle to the net and her shot went just left of the post.

The draw moves the U of R's record to 2-2-1 on the season as the Cougars now sit in a tie with Fraser Valley for sixth in the Canada West standings with seven points. Trinity Western is now 1-1-3 on the year and the Spartans are just behind the Cougars with six points.

Regina is back at home next weekend with matches against Calgary (4-0-1) and Lethbridge (0-3-2), while Trinity Western will head north for a single match against UNBC (0-5-1) next Saturday.
