Winners of six consecutive Canada West games and nine straight overall, the University of Regina's women's basketball team will put its streak on the line this Friday and Saturday against Winnipeg at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Tip-off is set for 6:15 p.m. on Friday with an earlier 5:00 p.m. start time on Saturday.

The Cougars (10-2) continue to be in the thick of a heated race atop standings in a strong Prairie Division. Alberta and Calgary enter the weekend in a tie with the Cougars for second place in the division, with all three teams one win behind first-place Saskatchewan (11-1). It'll be tempting for the U of R to keep one eye on the out-of-town scoreboard this weekend with Calgary and Saskatchewan squaring off in Calgary, but the Cougars will need to concentrate on their two games against a Winnipeg team that's also coming off of two wins, including one over then-No. 7 Fraser Valley last Saturday.

The Cougars didn't miss a beat in their return to the Canada West schedule last week, taking out Thompson Rivers 99-39 on Thursday and following that up with an 88-56 win over UBC Okanagan on Friday. Thursday's win featured a dominating performance on the glass, as the Cougars pulled down 73 rebounds – the most in a single game by the U of R since the Cougars joined Canada West prior to the 2001-02 season.

Nicole Clarke was named the Canada West Third Star of the Week on Tuesday for her role in the team's two wins last week. Clarke was 14-for-30 from the field – including 54.5% from three-point land – and accumulated a total of 38 points over the two games.

Katie Polischuk was injured in Thursday's win and didn't play in the UBC Okanagan game, and is considered questionable this weekend. Megan Chamberlin stepped into the starting lineup in her absence with Clarke, Kehlsie Crone, Jennilea Coppola, and Charlotte Kot also in the starting five. All 11 Cougars received significant playing time last weekend, including newcomer Janine Guijt who scored 16 points in her debut and 15 points the following night.

Winnipeg comes into the weekend with a 6-6 record through the first 12 games of the conference schedule. The Wesmen are a perfect 6-0 at home, but have lost all six of their road games so far. Fourth-year guard Stephanie Kleysen leads the U of W in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 15.5 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. Kleysen, also the team's leader with 32 steals on the season, scored 20 points in both of Winnipeg's wins over Fraser Valley and Trinity Western last weekend.

Second-year guard Megan Noonan averages 15.3 points per game, while fifth-year forward Alyssa Grant can shoot the ball from the perimeter and averages 9.9 points per contest. The trio of Kleysen, Noonan, and Grant has accounted for almost two-thirds of Winnipeg's offence this season.
