A big run in the second half propelled the University of Winnipeg to a 90-76 victory over the hometown Regina Cougars on Saturday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars fell behind by double digits in the first half for the second consecutive night, but unlike Friday's game the U of R was able to put together a run to get back into the game and took their first lead of the weekend with a Travis Sylvestre (pictured) three-pointer late in the second quarter. The Cougars went into halftime down one and led for a portion in the third, but a huge 25-6 run by Winnipeg gave the Wesmen the lead for good.

The U of R chipped the lead back down to 11 on three occasions in the fourth quarter, but weren't able to draw any closer to the Wesmen as Winnipeg held on for its ninth Canada West victory of the season.

Jordan Clennon had a fine game for Winnipeg (9-5), going 9-for-13 from the field and leading all players with 20 points. Jelane Pryce added 17 points and eight rebounds for Winnipeg, while Christopher Baxter chipped in with 12 points and Samuel Hattin added 10. Steven Wesley, who came into the game ranked second in Canada West with an average of 19.8 points per game, ended up with nine points and nine rebounds for Winnipeg in the victory.

Brandon Tull led the Cougars with 18 points and added six rebounds and five assists, while Sylvestre ended up with 12 points, Jeremy Zver and Brendan Hebert both scored 11, and Will Tallman had 10 points. Hebert added a game-high eight assists and Tull, Zver, and Darius Mole tied for the team high with six rebounds.

Winnipeg has a home-and-home upcoming against Brandon as the Wesmen draw closer to clinching a berth in the Canada West postseason. The Cougars (3-11) now have two consecutive road trips upcoming, starting next Friday and Saturday against Prairie Division rival Manitoba.
