Box Score

The University of Regina's men's basketball team fell behind early and never recovered in an 84-58 setback to Manitoba on Friday night at the Investors Group Athletic Centre in Winnipeg.

The Cougars went scoreless for over five minutes in the first quarter while Manitoba went on a 15-0 run to take control of the game. The Bisons led by 14 after the opening 10 minutes and took a 21-point lead into halftime, and a 12-0 run in the third quarter essentially killed any hopes of a U of R comeback.

Dan Penner led Manitoba (3-12) with 21 points and added nine rebounds, while Andre Arruda scored 14 and Keegan Slijker collected 11 points. Wyatt Anders led all players with 15 rebounds as Manitoba held a huge 56-34 advantage on the glass, including 24 of the game's 30 offensive rebounds.

Travis Sylvestre came off the bench to lead the Cougars (3-12) with 10 points.

Regina and Manitoba will meet again at the IGAC on Saturday night (7:00).
