The Cougars trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half and were down eight with eight minutes left, but came roaring back with a late push to take a six-point road win over Dickinon State.
Alex Igual hit a huge triple with two minutes left to give the Cougars their first lead since a minute into the second half, and after Dickinson State tied it with a triple of its own three possessions later
Travis Sylvestre gave the Cougars the lead for good with 30 seconds to go - and a technical foul tacked onto the end of the Sylvestre bucket gave Igual two free throws, and the Cuesta College transfer hit both of them to put the Cougars up four.
After a missed Blue Hawks triple and a DSU turnover on the ensuing possession,
Jonathan Tull added another pair of free throws late in the game to seal the win for the Cougars.
Four Cougars broke into double figures in scoring, led by
Brandon Tull's 15. Igual ended up with 14, while Sylvestre had 13 and
Jonathan Tull scored 11 while pulling down nine rebounds.
Saturday - Mayville State 79, Cougars 71The Cougars led by a bucket at halftime, but Mayville State outscored the U of R by a 43-33 margin in the second half to come away with an eight-point victory on Saturday night in Mayville.
Jonathan Tull hit three triples and was 8-for-14 from the field overall to lead the Cougars with 21 points, while rookie forward
Zach Mihalicz saw a big spike in playing time with
Will Tallman in foul trouble and responded with 16 points and seven rebounds. Tallman and
Brandon Tull both added nine points in the setback.
Chuck Robinson led Mayville State with 15 points.
Sunday - Cougars 82, Jamestown 63Playing their third game in as many nights, the Cougars pulled away in the second half to deal Jamestown a loss in its first game of the season. Jamestown was within six at halftime, but the U of R was strong down the stretch and ended up with almost a 20-point victory.
Igual had a team-high 21 points and led all players with five steals, while Tallman had 16 and
Travis Sylvestre scored 14. Igual, Tallman, and
Brandon Tull each had five rebounds for the Cougars, who will travel to Ontario next weekend for three non-conference games at a tournament hosted by Brock.
