The University of Regina's women's volleyball team was topped in three sets by Thompson Rivers on Saturday night in a Canada West match in Kamloops, B.C.
Thompson Rivers (4-4) edged the Cougars 26-24 in the first set, then took 25-19 and 25-22 wins in the second and third sets to complete the weekend sweep over the U of R.
Iuliiia Pakhomenko led TRU again, leading all players in kills (17) for the second consecutive night while collecting 11 digs and hitting .412 in the victory. Alyssa Wolf added nine kills for the WolfPack, while setter Kara Twomey dished out 35 assists while controlling a TRU offence that hit .283 as a team.
Michelle Sweeting (pictured) led the Cougars with nine kills and six blocks, while
Chelsea Ziolkowski had seven kills, five blocks, and tied
Leah Shevkenek for the team lead with nine digs. Shevkenek had 25 assists for the Cougars, who fall to 1-5 with the loss.
The Cougars will now prepare for a Saturday/Sunday series against Mount Royal (2-6) at home at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport. Matches are scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. start on Saturday and a 2 p.m. start on Sunday.
