Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's volleyball loses in four to Calgary

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team suffered a four-set loss to Calgary on Friday night at the Jack Simpson Gym on the U of C campus.

Calgary won 25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 25-21 to improve to 7-4 on the season and remain in a three-way tie with UBC and UBC Okanagan for second in the Canada West standings.

Janna Ogle and Beth Vinnell both had 10 kills to lead the Dinos, with Vinnell's 10 kills coming on just 12 attacks as she hit .833 for the match. Jordhynn Guy had 36 assists, while Kate Pexman had a match-high 16 digs for Calgary, which hit .265 as a team in the victory.

The Cougars (3-6) were led by 15 kills from Michelle Sweeting, who also added six digs and led all players with six blocks. Chelsea Ziolkowski had nine kills and seven digs, while Tori Glynn had eight kills and a team-high 11 digs.

Two early runs by Calgary gave them control of the first set, going on 7-1 and 6-1 runs and taking a 16-10 lead at the technical timeout. The Cougars got to within three points at 20-17, but Calgary reeled off three straight and opened the set with a 25-20 victory.

The teams traded points early in the second set until the Cougars collected five consecutive points with Molly Wade-Cummings serving. That gave the U of R a lead it would hold on to for the remainder of the set, with three of the visitors' final six points of the second coming on Glynn kills.

The third set saw Calgary hit .467 as a team and go on an 8-0 run around the technical timeout on its way to a 25-17 win. The Dinos were almost as efficient in the fourth, hitting .357 and clinching the match with a 25-21 victory.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night in Calgary with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. MST.
