SATURDAY: vs. Lethbridge, 2:30 p.m. (The Co-operators Centre)

The University of Regina men's hockey team will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns this weekend for a two-game set at The Co-operators Centre.

Regina (4-11-1) is coming off a split against No. 10-ranked Mount Royal University. The Cougars fell 5-1 to MRU on Friday before rebounding for a 4-3 victory on Saturday. Skyler Hladun, Brody Luhning, Tyler Giebel, Ward Szucki and Liam Brennan each registered a goal for the Cougars on the weekend.

"I felt like we played well both nights, and we were rewarded for our hard work on Saturday," head coach Todd Johnson said. "It's good for the guys to be rewarded for playing so hard, and it puts us in a good spot mentally to keep up the momentum."

Lethbridge sits a spot below Regina in the standings, sporting a 3-13 record. The Pronghorns dropped a couple of games last weekend as they hosted Saskatchewan, falling 3-2 then 5-1 to the Huskies.

"Being the last weekend before the break it's important for us to go into that time off playing well," Johnson added. "We'll need to train hard over the break but we want to be in a spot where we're feeling good heading into the new year and be able to make a push for a playoff spot."

Tyler Henry and Cody Fowlie (pictured) are tied for the team lead with six points apiece heading into the weekend. Ian McNulty, Tory Hunter, Dylen McKinlay and Hladun have each notched five points on the campaign.

Mitch Kilgore picked up his second-straight win on Saturday, as he improves to 2-3 on the season between the pipes. Kilgore and Lucas Gore continue to split time in net, as Gore stopped 28 shots on Friday and Kilgore made 21 saves in Saturday's win. Gore has two wins during the Canada West schedule and is sporting a .907 save percentage.

The Cougars have seen increased offensive production from the blue line, as Saturday's game saw Luhning notch a goal and an assist and Szucki scoring his first of the season after making the move to the point.

"It's important for us to hit the net as much as possible, whether that be from our defenders or forwards," noted Johnson. "The more pucks were can get on net the more chances we'll see on rebounds and getting guys in front."

Lethbridge is led by Mitchell Maxwell and Ryon Moser, both of whom have nine points. The leading goal scorer for the Pronghorns is Brock Hirsche with five markers on the season.

Damien Ketlo, Warren Shymko and Dylan Tait have each made appearances between the pipes for the Pronghorns. All three netminders have goals-against averages exceeding 4.00 during the Canada West schedule.

The Cougars and Pronghorns have met once already this season, as the two teams split a pair of games in Lethbridge. The Pronghorns prevailed 5-3 on Nov. 8 and the Cougars rebounded on Nov. 9, winning 4-1.

Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. at The Co-operators Centre, while Saturday's rematch will face off at 2:30 p.m.
