The University of Regina's men's basketball team finished with a 1-2 record and a sixth-place finish at the non-conference Wesmen Classic hosted by the University of Winnipeg.
The Cougars started out the tournament with an 85-74 loss to Manitoba in the tournament quarterfinals, then defeated NAIT by a 73-58 margin to advance to the fifth-place game. There, the Cougars suffered an 83-77 setback to Lakehead in their final non-conference game before the Canada West schedule resumes on Jan. 9 and Jan. 10 at Trinity Western.

Jonathan Tull both injured, the Cougars were down to 10 available players for the tournament.

Brandon Tull each started all three games for the U of R, while 
Mike Malecha started the Manitoba game and post 
Jeremy Zver got the start in the team's final two games.
Dec. 28 – Manitoba 85, Regina 74The U of R fell behind by as many as 21 points in the third quarter before the Cougars battled back to cut the lead to single digits but it was too little, too late as the Bisons advanced to the tournament semifinals with an 11-point win. Augustine was 12-for-12 from the line and led the Cougars with 16 points, while rookie post 
Zach Mihalicz came off the bench to score 12 on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. 
Ryan Delwo also sparked the Cougars off the bench, scoring nine points on three triples while pulling down six rebounds.
Dec. 29 – Regina 73, NAIT 58The Cougars led from wire to wire in a consolation semifinal win over NAIT, jumping ahead 21-14 after the first quarter of play and cruising to a 15-point win over their CCAA opposition. Augustine had 16 points, Mihalicz scored 15, Sylvestre added 10 points, and all three players tied for the team lead with 10 rebounds to notch double-doubles. Delwo added 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench, helping the Cougars book a ticket to the tournament's fifth-place game on Tuesday.
Dec. 30 – Lakehead 83, Regina 77Mihalicz exploded for 25 points, but a late Cougar comeback fell short in a six-point loss to Lakehead. Mihalicz was 9-for-12 from the field and 7-for-8 from the line and also led all players with 10 rebounds to notch his second double-double in as many days. Augustine scored in double digits for the third game in a row and ended up with 12 points and four assists, while Tull and Sylvestre both scored 10 for the U of R. Lakehead's Ryan Doornick hit seven three-pointers and scored a game-high 30 points for the Thunderwolves.
