The University of Regina's women's basketball team will put its 14-game conference winning streak on the line this weekend as the Cougars host the Brandon Bobcats on Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

The Cougars (18-2) enter the weekend tied for first place in the Prairie Division with Alberta, but the Pandas will hold the tiebreaker over the U of R if the two teams remain tied after this weekend. The Cougars can clinch second place in the division with a win this weekend, and can place first only if they finish with more wins than Alberta – and that requires some help on the out-of-town scoreboard in the form of a Saskatchewan road win over the Pandas.

Should the Cougars host a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series, it will be held next weekend at the CKHS to accommodate the 2014 CIS Women's Volleyball Championship that will be held beginning Feb. 28. Games for the home series would be Feb. 21, Feb. 22, and if a third game is necessary, Feb. 23 – all with 7 p.m. starts.

The Cougars took care of business last weekend against a Calgary team that will earn the final Prairie Division playoff berth if the Dinos can hold off Winnipeg this weekend for fourth in the standings. The U of R won 90-57 on Friday night and completed the sweep with a 76-43 victory on Saturday.

Nicole Clarke and Alyssia Kajati are close to setting two University of Regina single-season records. Clarke needs just three more triples to pass Michelle Clark's record of 57 set during the 2011-12 season, while Kajati enters the weekend with a .619 field goal percentage – just short of Corrin Wersta's .622 during the 1997-98 campaign.

University of Regina players rank at the top of Canada West in several offensive categories, including Kajati's conference-leading field goal percentage and three-point percentage where Clarke (.462) and Katie Polischuk (.400) are one-two in Canada West. Charlotte Kot has the best free throw percentage in the conference (.848), while Jennilea Coppola is second in Canada West with 30 blocked shots.

The Cougars will probably go with Clarke, Kot, Coppola, Kehlsie Crone, and Madi Docherty with their starting five and – back to full strength with Megan Chamberlin returning from an ankle injury – are likely to use their bench liberally over the course of the weekend.

Brandon comes into its final weekend of the season with a 5-15 record – the most wins the Bobcats have collected in a single year since going 10-6 in Great Plains Athletic Conference play during the 1983-84 campaign. Cassie Cooke has been a massive contributor to Brandon's improvement, as the transfer from Cape Breton University leads Canada West in points per game (23.5) and three-pointers made (57) while also leading the Bobcats in rebounds per game (7.0), assists (96), and steals (75).

Also a threat from the perimeter is Kaela Cranston, who's hit 50 triples and shoots 31% from three-point range. Brandon has two wins over Manitoba and single wins over UNBC, Mount Royal, and Lethbridge this season.

Game time is scheduled for 6:15 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
