Fourth-year guard Brendan Hebert (pictured) is closing in on a major school record as the University of Regina's men's basketball team hosts Calgary this Friday and Saturday at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.

Hebert collected nine assists during the team's two-game West Coast road swing last weekend to give him 345 for his career. Hebert, who has yet to miss a game in his four seasons at the U of R and is expected to make his 61st and 62nd consecutive starts this weekend, now needs just three more assists to surpass former Cougar Zach Michell as the school's all-time leader in the category.

"Brendan is your prototypical pass-first point guard, and we've also asked him to shoulder some more of the scoring responsibility this season and he's done that as well," Cougars head coach Steve Burrows said. "But besides that, he's this team's leader in every sense – in the classroom and in the weight room as well as the leadership he provides on the floor. He's an excellent role model for our many young guys to look up to."

Brandon Tull missed last Saturday's game at Trinity Western, but the first-year guard continues to lead all Canada West rookies in scoring with an average of 15.2 points per game and is expected to return to the U of R's lineup this weekend. Tull, Hebert, Wesley Jones, Will Tallman, and Darius Mole will likely comprise the starting five for the Cougars, while Travis Sylvestre, Jeremy Zver, Matthew Augustine, Ryan Delwo, and Kade Marra have contributed off the bench as head coach Steve Burrows has gone with a nine-man or 10-man rotation in recent weeks.

Calgary, which was mathematically eliminated from the Prairie Division playoff race after last weekend's games, features one of the conference's top players in Jarred Ogungbemi-Jackson. The fourth-year guard is second in Canada West in scoring with an average of 19.9 points per game and is one of a handful of players in the conference that are over 40% from three-point range this season.

Josh Turner (12.3 points per game) and Philip Barndt (11.8) both average in double figures for the Dinos, while Barndt is also the team's leading rebounder with an average of 7.3 boards per contest.

Calgary finishes off the 2013-14 season next week with a home-and-home against Lethbridge, while the Cougars will close out the conference schedule at home against Brandon.

This weekend's game times are set for 8:15 p.m. on Friday and 7:00 p.m. on Saturday following the conclusion of the women's game on both nights.

NOTES: The Cougars have won four consecutive games over Calgary in Regina, with the Dinos' only win at the CKHS coming back on Jan. 18, 2008 ... last time these two teams met in Regina was on Nov. 19, 2011 when the Cougars pulled out a 93-91 win in double overtime ... Calgary holds a 19-8 advantage in the all-time series, but the Cougars are 7-5 against the Dinos in Regina.
