Box Score The University of Regina women's soccer team opened its 2014 season with a 2-0 loss to the University of Winnipeg Wesmen in non-conference play at Leibel Field on Wednesday afternoon.
Chelsea Kwasnicki opened the scoring in the sixth minute as she snuck behind the Cougars' defence and slid a lead pass from Danielle Bulloch through the legs of Regina goalkeeper Kacey McFee.
Kwasnicki scored her second goal of the match in the 68th minute on a pass from Carly Lomonaco. The strike from the top of the box was deflected by McFee, but still found its way into the net.
Kwasnicki registered four shots on goal during the contest.
The Cougars' best chance came in the 69th minute off a corner kick from Olivia Bolen. Brianna Wright had two shots at the net but one was stopped by Taylor Thorkelsson and the second was blocked by a defender. Cougars forward Shayla Kapila collected the rebound but her strike sailed wide.
McFee stopped four shots during the contest. Thorkelsson made three saves for the Wesmen.
The teams will meet again for another non-conference match Thursday morning, with game time slated for 10 a.m., at Leibel Field.
