Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Bisons bounce back, top Cougars 6-2

The Manitoba Bisons fought back and earned the split against the University of Regina men's hockey team, taking a 6-2 decision over the visiting Cougars on Saturday afternoon.

Brett Stovin and Justin Augert each scored twice for the Bisons, while Brett Brooks and Jordan DePape also found the net in the win. Dylen McKinlay scored in his second-straight game and J.J. Coleshaw got his first career Canada West goal for the Cougars.

Miguel Pereira had an early breakaway opportunity in the first period, but his attempt was stifled by Byron Spriggs. The Bisons scored twice in the opening frame and once in the second before piling on two more goals in the third period. The Bisons were comfortable with a 6-0 lead before the Cougars could get on the board. McKinlay's goal was scored off an assist by Cody Fowlie, and came with just 4:11 to play. Coleshaw's marker with 1:01 remaining  was assisted by Christian Magnus.

Dawson MacAuley made the start again for the Cougars, surrendering five goals on 17 shots in just over two period of work. Mitch Kilgore came on in relief of MacAuley, and let in the only shot that was sent his way. Spriggs was the winning goaltender, making 14 saves on 16 shots.

The Cougars (1-1-0) are at home next weekend, as they will play host to the Alberta Golden Bears, who were ranked No. 1 in the Canada West pre-season coaches poll. The Golden Bears downed the Lethbridge Pronghorns 2-0 on Friday night and were to square off against the hometown Pronghorns again on Saturday evening.
