It was a two-point game at halftime, but the University of Saskatchewan took an 81-61 win over host Regina on Saturday afternoon for its third victory in as many days at the non-conference tournament at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
The Cougars were within eight points with just under seven minutes left in the fourth, but Saskatchewan got field goals from four different players as part of a quick 10-0 run that put the game away for the visitors.
Saskatchewan was led by Latvian newcomer Sabine Dukate, who was 5-for-9 from three-point range and led all players with 25 points. Desarae Hogberg (14 points), Dalyce Emmerson (10), and Kelsey Trulsrud (10) all hit double figures in scoring for the Huskies, with Emmerson adding a game-high 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Kehlsie Crone (pictured) had a team-high 23 points for the Cougars, 11 of which came in the first quarter alone.
Katie Polischuk added 15 points and seven rebounds, while
Alyssia Kajati came off the bench to score 10.
NOTES: In the
de facto third-place game earlier on Saturday, Fraser Valley took a 69-53 win over Guelph.
