The University of Regina's women's basketball team remains undefeated in Canada West play after a convincing 86-44 win over Lethbridge on Friday night in the Cougars' home opener at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
Â
Christina McCusker had a big game for the Cougars, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and scoring a team-high 16 points in 21 minutes off the bench.
Charlotte Kot and
Alyssia Kajati both finished close to double-doubles, as Kot had 13 points and nine rebounds while Kajati ended up with 12 points and eight boards.
Â
Rookie guard
Michaela Kleisinger also hit double figures in points for the Cougars, who improve their Canada West record to 3-0 with the win. Kleisinger connected on a pair of three-point attempts and finished with 10 points.
Â
Danielle Fritzke was the bright spot for Lethbridge (0-3). The second-year guard was 5-for-7 from three-point range and led all players with 18 points.
Â
It was all Cougars from the opening tip. Though the Cougars lost
Kehlsie Crone just two minutes into the game after the veteran guard suffered a lower-body injury, they opened the game on a 14-0 run and never looked back. The Cougars led 25-4 after one and held a 46-16 advantage at halftime, and removed any hope of a Lethbridge comeback with a 15-1 run that spanned most of the third quarter.
Â
The Cougars will face Lethbridge again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
