Former Rams OL Brett Jones signs with New York Giants

The New York Giants announced Wednesday that they've signed former University of Regina Rams offensive lineman Brett Jones as a free agent following two stellar seasons with the Calgary Stampeders.

Jones' signing makes five former Rams currently under contract with NFL teams. That list includes three former teammates of Jones, including defensive linemen Stefan Charles (Buffalo) and Akiem Hicks (New Orleans) and long snapper Jorgen Hus (Kansas City). Seattle punter Jon Ryan played for the Rams between 2000 and 2003 and just completed his ninth NFL season.

Jones completed his four-season career with the Rams in 2012, earning a first-team All-Canadian nod in both of his final two seasons and Academic All-Canadian honours in all four years at the U of R. He was also named Canada West's top lineman in 2012, moving forward as the conference's nominee for the J.P. Metras Trophy. Jones took over as a starter midway through his first season with the Rams, getting playing time at both left guard and centre during his CIS career.

With Calgary, Jones immediately solidified himself as one of the top players in the CFL. He was named the CFL Rookie of the Year in 2013 and the CFL Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2014, and went on to help lead the Stampeders to the Grey Cup this past November.

Jones joins a Giants team that finished third in the NFC East last season with a 6-10 record.
