University of Regina Rams linebacker
Danny Nesbitt led Canada U19's defence with eight tackles, an interception and a forced fumble, but the Canadians suffered a 35-0 loss to the United States on Saturday at the 2015 International Bowl in Arlington, Texas.
Â
Nesbitt was one of three Rams on the Canadian roster along with defensive linemen
Grey McKen and
Eric Wicijowski. Both McKen and Wicijowski collected one tackle apiece for Canada.
Â
Nesbitt had three tackles on the USA's second drive of the game and three more on the Americans' first drive of the second quarter – and those came on back-to-back-to-back plays. The third tackle was on fourth down as United States quarterback Ryan Boyle – a University of Iowa commit – tried to scramble for a first down but a hit by Nesbitt jarred the ball loose and gave the ball back to Canada. Nesbitt, who will enter his second season of CIS eligibility in 2015, also intercepted Boyle late in the game and ran it back 34 yards.
Â
McKen's tackle came on a 3rd-and-13 situation in the first quarter which forced a fourth-down gamble by the Americans, while Wicijowski's tackle was on the final play of the opening quarter.
Â
Boyle was 10-for-21 for 97 yards and two touchdowns for the United States, while Ball State-bound Riley Neal was 14-for-22 for 161 yards and two majors. Canadian quarterback Liam Putt – who played for Assumption College in 2014 – completed 10 passes for 66 yards.
Â
Nesbitt also competed in the 2014 International Bowl's U19 game, while both McKen and Wicijowski were making their first appearance for Team Canada.
