SATURDAY - vs. MacEwan, noon, U of R Field
SUNDAY - vs. Mount Royal, noon, U of R Field

The University of Regina women's soccer team is back on home turf this weekend, gearing up for matches against the MacEwan Griffins and Mount Royal University.

The Cougars (1-2-1) are looking to rebound after a scoreless weekend in Alberta, where they fell 3-0 to the Calgary Dinos and tied the Lethbridge Pronghorns 0-0. The tie against the Pronghorns gave the Cougars their first point of the 2015 season, but the Cougars were later awarded a retroactive win for the Sept. 12 match against the Winnipeg Wesmen due to an ineligible Wesmen athlete.

MacEwan sits tied in the standings with the Cougars, at 1-2-1. Last weekend's action for the Griffins produced a 2-2 tie against Manitoba and a 2-0 win over the Wesmen. Mount Royal is a spot below the Cougars and Griffins in the overall picture, with a 1-3-0 record. MRU is coming off a pair of losses last weekend – dropping a 1-0 decision to Winnipeg before falling 2-1 against the Bisons.

The Cougars have peppered opposing goaltenders this season, registering 56 shots in the first four games of the Canada West campaign. Head coach Bob Maltman likes the aggressiveness on the offensive end, but would like to see some changes that could lead to more goals.

"We need to display more composure around the net and make sure we're seeing past the goalkeeper. It's a positive that we're getting so many shots, but we need to realize where we are on the pitch and capitalize on our opportunities."

"We've done a lot of good things with no results, and we're excited to see some dividends for the work we've been doing."

In net for the Cougars, rookie keeper Savannah Williams has gotten the nod in each of the last two games. The first-year Cougar has turned aside 12 of the 15 shots she has faced in the early going, and notched her first career shutout against Lethbridge last weekend.
