The University of Regina women's soccer team is set for its first Canada West playoff match since 2013, as the Cougars head up to Saskatoon to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies in a winner-take-all match on Saturday.
Regina won three of its last four Canada West matches to finish the season with a 5-6-3 record, good enough for fourth in the Canada West Prairie Division. The third-place Huskies played their way to an 8-3-3 regular-season record.
The Cougars and Huskies met twice in the regular season, with one game on each team's home turf. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in Regina on Oct. 7 before Saskatchewan topped the Cougars 2-0 two days later.
Karlee Vorrieter led the Cougars with four goals and two assists in the regular season.
Sydney Langen exploded for all three of her regular season markers in Regina's 5-1 win over Thompson Rivers on Oct. 22, and
Brianna Wright netted two goals during the Canada West schedule.
Ashton Lowry started 11 games in net, winning four games and recording three clean sheets.
Kacey McFee made three starts, producing a shutout in a 1-0 win over UBC Okanagan.
Erica Hindmarsh was the leading scorer for Saskatchewan, posting four goals and six assists. Rebecca Weckworth added five goals of her own.
Kyleigh Vause and Jadyn Steinhauer split time in goal, combing four eight shutouts.
Regina and Saskatchewan have only met once before in post-season competition, with the Cougars taking a 1-0 shootout victory on home turf in 2012.
