Jane Kish earned her second-consecutive shutout on Friday night as the University of Regina women's hockey team rolled to a 3-0 win over the Alberta Pandas at Clare Drake Arena.
The second-year netminder stopped a whopping 37 shots, including 19 in the final frame to earn her second career shutout, and fifth win of the season.
Kylee Kupper,
Jaycee Magwood and
Alexis Larson were the goal scorers for the Cougars, who move to 5-3-1-0 with the win.
Kupper opened the scoring just 1:39 into the evening, taking a long feed from
Sam Geekie and slipping a tidy shot through the pads of Dana Owen for her fourth goal of the Canada West season.Â
The Cougars added to their lead just before the end of the first period, scoring the first of their two powerplay goals on the night. Magwood was well-positioned in front of the Alberta goal and deflected a shot past Owen to double up the lead.
Larson's goal came early in the second, as a low shot from the point following a faceoff fooled the Alberta netminder, stretching the Cougar lead and ending Owen's night. Lindsey Post came on in relief for the Pandas and stopped all eight shots she faced.
Despite outshooting the Cougars 19-4 in the final frame, Alberta was unable to solve Kish. The Panda attack was consistently in the Cougar end, but a shot off the post by Ashley Morin was as close as the home team would get.
Krista Metz,
Emma Waldenberger,
Kylie Gavelin,
Merissa Zerr and Geekie all registered an assist for the Cougars in the win.
The Cougars and Pandas will matchup again on Saturday, with puck drop scheduled for 2 p.m.
