Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Cougars downed by MacEwan in four sets

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell to 1-20 on the season after a four-set road loss to MacEwan on Friday night in Edmonton.

After MacEwan opened up the match with a 25-17 win in the first set, it looked like the Griffins were on their way to a second-set victory after a run following the technical timeout gave the home side a 18-14 lead. But Cougars head coach called a timeout and it was all Cougars from there, as they reeled off seven straight points behind the serving of Molly Wade-Cummings to take the lead and eventually won 25-20 to square the match at a set apiece.

Regina had designs on an even greater comeback in the third after six straight points turned a 24-16 MacEwan lead into just a two-point advantage, but the Griffins got a kill from Cassidy Kinsella to take it 25-22. MacEwan rode that momentum into the fourth, leading from start to finish in a 25-16 win that gave the Griffins their sixth Canada West win of the season.

Kinsella finished with 12 kills and 14 digs for MacEwan, while Jasey Hook added eight kills and eight blocks and libero Karly Edgar was credited with a match-high 27 digs.

Ashlee Sandiford had seven kills, nine digs, and three blocks for the Cougars.

The teams will close out the weekend series on Saturday night (5:00 MST).
