The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell to 1-20 on the season after a four-set road loss to MacEwan on Friday night in Edmonton.
Â
After MacEwan opened up the match with a 25-17 win in the first set, it looked like the Griffins were on their way to a second-set victory after a run following the technical timeout gave the home side a 18-14 lead. But Cougars head coach called a timeout and it was all Cougars from there, as they reeled off seven straight points behind the serving of
Molly Wade-Cummings to take the lead and eventually won 25-20 to square the match at a set apiece.
Â
Regina had designs on an even greater comeback in the third after six straight points turned a 24-16 MacEwan lead into just a two-point advantage, but the Griffins got a kill from Cassidy Kinsella to take it 25-22. MacEwan rode that momentum into the fourth, leading from start to finish in a 25-16 win that gave the Griffins their sixth Canada West win of the season.
Â
Kinsella finished with 12 kills and 14 digs for MacEwan, while Jasey Hook added eight kills and eight blocks and libero Karly Edgar was credited with a match-high 27 digs.
Â
Ashlee Sandiford had seven kills, nine digs, and three blocks for the Cougars.
Â
The teams will close out the weekend series on Saturday night (5:00 MST).
