SUNDAY: vs. Manitoba, 12 p.m., U of R Field
The University of Regina women's soccer team will wrap up the Canada West regular season this weekend with home matchups against the Winnipeg Wesmen and Manitoba Bisons.
The Playoff Hunt
The Cougars (0-6-6) are still alive in the Canada West playoff hunt, sitting six points back of the Bisons for the final spot. That means the Cougars will have to win both matches this weekend and also get some help from the Saskatchewan Huskies.
Looking Back
Regina opened the conference schedule with road matches against Winnipeg and Manitoba back in September, tying the Bisons 0-0 before playing the Wesmen to a 1-1 draw.
The Cougars are coming off a weekend trip out west that saw them fall 5-0 to No. 5-ranked Trinity Western before picking up a 1-1 draw against Fraser Valley the following evening.
Daniela Castro scored in the 63
rd minute on Saturday as the Cougars came back to salvage a point and keep their playoff hopes alive.
Finding the Net
Sally Bachmann is the leading scorer for the Cougars with three goals this season. Castro,
Brianna Wright,
Kirsten Finley,
Lauren Petras and
Kyra Vibert each have a goal to their credit. Wright also leads the team with four assists. Maeghan Lindsay leads Winnipeg with three goals while Hailey Lavarias and Florin Wagmer each have five for Manitoba.
Between the Posts
Ashton Lowry has made nine starts in goal after
Savannah Williams went down with an injury, posting a 2.28 goals-against average. Winnipeg's Madison Fordyce has made 10 starts with a .781 save percentage and Justina Jarmoszko has started 10 games for the Bisons and has a .840 save rate.
