HEADLINES
• Saturday will mark the first of two consecutive games between the Rams and UBC. This game will decide second place in the Canada West standings and home-field advantage for next weekend's conference semifinal matchup.

• Rams veterans Atlee Simon, Noah Picton, and Mitchell Picton continue to shatter record books. Simon is closing in on the U of R's all-time rushing yards lead, Noah is nearing 10,000 passing yards, and Mitchell has an outside chance at the school's career receiving yards mark.

• The two teams opened up the Canada West schedule against each other back on Sept. 1 in Regina. The Rams won that one by a score of 40-26.

SIMON CLOSES IN ON RUSHING YARDS RECORD: RB Atlee Simon has exploded the past three weeks for the Rams. He had 163 rushing yards at Saskatchewan, 205 yards at Alberta, and 181 more last week against Calgary. In those three games, he's accumulated 683 all-purpose yards and five touchdowns - three in the air and two more on the ground. Already the school's career leader in touchdowns scored (29) and touchdown rushes (20), Simon is now just 106 yards shy of the University of Regina's career rushing yards mark. Neal Hughes had 2934 over his five-season career, while Simon comes into Saturday's game with 2828.

MORE ON ATLEE: It would take a fourth consecutive massive game, but Simon is also within reach of the school single-season rushing yards record. He's got 799 through seven weeks, which is 173 behind Adrian Charles' record of 972 set back in 2010.

10K: QB Noah Picton supplanted Teale Orban as Canada West's all-time passing yards leader last game and now looks to become the first Canada West player ever to hit 10,000. He has 9734 heading into Saturday's game, which now ranks eighth in U SPORTS history after passing both Orban and Justin Dunk. Picton has a reasonable chance of vaulting all the way up to fifth on the national list on Saturday, with seventh-place Josh Sacobie (9885), sixth-place Ben Chapdelaine (9974), and fifth-place Austin Kennedy (10,004) all within reach. Former Sherbrooke quarterback Jérémi Roch is the all-time leader with 11,477 passing yards.

COMPLETIONS: QB Noah Picton became Canada West's career completions leader following the Alberta win and is also just 30 completions behind his own Canada West single-season record of 224, which he set last season. Picton's 194 completions this season are also 38 behind the national record of 232, which was set just last year by Ottawa's Derek Wendel.

CLOSING THE BOOK: SB Mitchell Picton will play the final conference game of his five-season career on Saturday. He passed Chad Goldie as the school's career leader in touchdown catches earlier this season, and has an outside chance at reeling in Jared Janotta for the U of R's all-time lead in receiving yards. Janotta compiled 2579 yards in his time with the Rams, while third-place Picton comes into the UBC game with 2408. Between them is Goldie, who had 2458 yards in his career. Picton could also become the first player in U SPORTS history to record two seasons with at least 50 receptions and 10 touchdown receptions - he had 58 and 11 last year, and enters Saturday's contest with 49 and eight this year.

DEFENSIVE LEADERS: Two Rams rank among Canada West's leaders on the defensive side of the ball. Rookie LB Nick Cross has been in on a Canada West-leading 56 tackles this season (33 solo, 23 assisted) while DL Nicholas Dheilly is tied for second in the conference in sacks (4½) and tied for third in tackles for loss (7½). Dheilly remains two sacks behind Akiem Hicks' school single-season record of 6½ set back in 2011.

AGAINST UBC: Including the Week 1 win, the Rams are 16-11 against UBC in 27 Canada West games played. Next weekend's conference semifinal game will mark the second time the programs have met in the postseason - the other time, of course, was just last year when UBC won 40-34 in Regina to advance to the Hardy Cup.

RAMS IN THE PROS: The Rams currently have seven players on active professional rosters, including three in the NFL – Akiem Hicks (Chicago), Brett Jones (New York Giants), and Jon Ryan (Seattle). The four University of Regina alumni in the CFL are Tevaughn Campbell (Montreal), Jorgen Hus (Saskatchewan), Brendon LaBatte (Saskatchewan), and Jeremy Zver (Saskatchewan). There's also three former U of R players on CFL non-active rosters, including Winnipeg's Kahlen Branning (practice squad), BC's Jas Dhillon (six-game injured list) and Saskatchewan's Chris Getzlaf (practice squad).
