Dinos, Griffins go undefeated at Great Plains Challenge

Monday, Aug. 21 – Alberta 0, Regina 0
The hometown Regina Cougars opened up the Great Plains Challenge playing the Alberta Pandas to a 0-0 draw. Savannah Williams earned the clean sheet in net for the Cougars while Rebecca Reif collected a shutout for the Pandas.

Tuesday, Aug. 22 – Winnipeg 1, Mount Royal 1
The morning of Day 2 at the Great Plains Challenge produced another draw, as the Winnipeg Wesmen and Mount Royal Cougars reached a 1-1 result. Shae-Lynn Dodds found the net in the 8th minute for Winnipeg and Navroop Kirk netted the equalizer just before halftime.

Tuesday, Aug. 22 – Saskatchewan 0, Alberta 3
It didn't take Alberta long to find the net after being shutout by the Cougars on Monday, as Kiera Fujimoto scored in the second minute as Alberta cruised to a 3-0 victory over Saskatchewan. Sydney Daines and Kiara McLaughlin also found the net for the Pandas.

Tuesday, Aug. 22 – Calgary 2, Manitoba 0
The Calgary Dinos closed ended Day 2 action with a 2-0 defeat of the Manitoba Bisons as Sophia Traxler posted a shutout in goal. Carmen Lee scored in the 14th minute on an assist from Kelsie MacDonald and Maya Ida added an insurance marker in the 56th minute for Calgary.

Wednesday, Aug. 23 – Alberta 3, Winnipeg 1
Day 3 began with Alberta netting three first-half goals, two of them off the foot of Fujimoto. The Alberta forward followed up Karissa McNutt's marker with goals in the 37th and 40th minute as Alberta rolled to a 3-1 win. Dodds answered for Winnipeg with her second goal in as many games.

Wednesday, Aug. 23 – Regina 1, Calgary 3
After Natalie Arnett put the Dinos on the scoreboard right before halftime, Brianna Wright evened the score in the 85th minute, powering home a low shot off a rebound. The Dinos answered with two late goals to pull away, as Amy Mikusa scored on a penalty kick in the 89th minute and off a rebound in the 92nd.

Wednesday, Aug. 23 – Manitoba 5, Saskatchewan 4
The Bisons and Huskies went back and forth at each other before Rebecca Martin broke a 4-4 tie in the 83rd minute to put Manitoba up for good. Hailey Lavarias had two goals for the Bisons, while Amanda Wong and Alyssa Daley added singles. Rebecca Weckworth scored twice for Saskatchewan and Taneil Gay and Hannah Clark also found the net for the Huskies.

Wednesday, Aug. 23 – Mount Royal 0, MacEwan 1
The Griffins opened up their GPC play with a 1-0 win over Mount Royal on Wednesday afternoon. Jamie Erickson scored the decisive goal in the 10th minute off a pretty feed from Suekiana Choucair. Emily Burns went the distance in net and kept MRU off the scoresheet.

Thursday, Aug. 24 – Saskatchewan 0, Calgary 1
The Dinos improved to 3-0 with a marker off the foot of Arnett in the 81st minute on Thursday morning. Traxler and Lauren Houghton each played a half in goal for Calgary and earned the clean sheet.

Thursday, Aug. 24 – Manitoba 1, Mount Royal 2
Mount Royal opened the scoring in the 25th minute thanks to Kirk's second goal of the week and then broke a tie game in the 73rd minute thanks to a goal from Kaitlin Brown. Florin Wagner replied for Manitoba as the Bisons close the week at 1-2.

Thursday, Aug. 24 – Winnipeg 1, MacEwan 2
MacEwan notched their second-straight win on Thursday morning thanks to goals from Choucair and Meagan Lemoine. The Griffins will look to tie Calgary for top spot with a win against Regina on Friday morning. Jamila Calvez scored in the 74th minute for Winnipeg.
 
Friday, Aug. 25 – MacEwan 4, Regina 2
Shortly after MacEwan opened the scoring in the 8th minute, Brianna Wright converted a beautiful header off a long cross from Shayla Kapila to even the score. The Griffins went back up a goal before Daniela Castro evened the score in the 45th minute, but two MacEwan goals in the second half secured the undefeated week for the Griffins.
