The Cougars opened their home schedule last weekend, as the UBC Okanagan Heat and Thompson Rivers Wolfpack were in town. Regina jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over the Heat on Saturday as
Lauren Petras and
Kirsten Finley both scored their first career U SPORTS goals, but two late markers by UBCO resulted in a 2-2 draw. TRU handed the Cougars their first loss of the 2017 season on Sunday, scoring in the 77
th minute to take a 1-0 win.
The Opposition
Regina (0-1-3) will look to get into the win column this weekend as both the Dinos and Pronghorns enter the weekend sporting 1-2-1 records. Calgary took a big 3-0 win over Trinity Western on home turf before dropping a 1-0 decision to Fraser Valley the following afternoon. Lethbridge flipped the script, hammering Fraser Valley 5-0 but losing 2-0 to Trinity Western.
On The Attack
Petras, Finley and rookie forward
Sally Bachmann have each found the net once for the Cougars this season. Maddison Fritze has scored twice for the Dinos and Damiane Sawatzky also has a goal. Lindsay Amatto, Kayla Blacquiere and Nikki Furukawa have all netted two goals for Lethbridge.
Between The Posts
Savannah Williams has the second-best goals-against average in Canada West, but left Saturday's game with an injury. Fourth-year keeper
Ashton Lowry has come on in relief and will likely start this weekend. Lauren Houghton has started all four Calgary games and stopped 19 of 21 shots she's faced. Micaela Stone has been the mainstay in the Lethbridge goal, stopping 17 of 21 opposing efforts.
