SATURDAY: at Alberta, 2 p.m., Foote Soccer Field
SUNDAY: at Mount Royal, 11 a.m., Mount Royal Fields
The University of Regina women's soccer team will take to the road this weekend in search of their first win of the 2017 Canada West campaign.
Last Week
The Cougars (0-3-3) are coming off a pair of home games that saw them fall 4-0 to the Calgary Dinos and 2-1 to the Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Brianna Wright scored the lone goal of the weekend for the Cougars, netting her first of the season in the first half of Sunday's contest.
Moving Forward
Regina will pay the Alberta Pandas a visit on Saturday before taking on Mount Royal University on Sunday. The Pandas enter the weekend with a 4-1-1 record while MRU sits at 3-2-1. Alberta beat Manitoba 1-0 and Winnipeg 4-0 on the road a weekend ago, while MRU lost 4-0 to Winnipeg before shutting out Manitoba 3-0.
Lights Out
Alberta has been incredible on the defensive end of the pitch this season, allowing just one goal in six Canada West contests. The Pandas aren't too shabby on the attack either, as their 103 shots rank them second in the conference.
Quality Chances
The Cougars rank eighth in Canada West with 64 shots, but only four of those have found the net and that 0.63 goal percentage is the worst in the conference. Wright leads the team with 13 shots while midfielders
Shayla Kapila (9) and
Jet Davies (8) are next on the Cougar list. Wright,
Kirsten Finley,
Lauren Petras and
Sally Bachmann are the Regina goal scorers thus far.
Halfway Home
This weekend marks the midway point of the 2017 Canada West season, and the Cougars sit one point out of a playoff spot. Regina will have to make up some ground on the road, with five road games and home macthes against Saskatchewan (Oct. 5), Winnipeg (Oct. 21) and Manitoba (Oct. 22) remaining.
