Cougars take first set from Calgary, but top-ranked Dinos win in four

The University of Regina's women's volleyball team marched into the Jack Simpson Gym on Friday night and took the first set over top-ranked Calgary, but it was all Dinos from there as the home team took it in four.
 
The Cougars opened up the match with a 25-21 win, but the Dinos got their offence moving after that. Calgary hit .433 as a team in a 25-11 second-set win, then hit .348 in the third set and .467 in the fourth while taking both of those by 25-18 scores.
 
Calgary improves to 3-0 on the season, while Regina falls to 2-3 with the setback.
 
Hannah Tanasichuk had 15 kills and hit .344 for the Dinos, while Kate Pexman added 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double and Beth Vinnell added 11 kills and six blocks. Leah Shevkenek, a former Cougar, had 40 assists and eight digs for the Dinos while Kenzie Vaandering and Kennedy Snape both had 14 digs.
 
Diana Lumbala had a team-high 12 kills for the Cougars, while Brooklyn Reynolds and Ashlee Sandiford both collected 11. Taylor Ungar tied Vaandering and Snape for the match lead with 14 digs.
 
The two teams will meet again in Calgary on Friday night. First serve is set for 4:00 PM.
