The University of Regina's women's volleyball team rolled to a three-set road victory over Mount Royal on Friday night in a Canada West match at Kenyon Court in Calgary.
The win was a critical one for the Cougars. They draw level with Mount Royal for sixth place in the Canada West standings, as both teams now sport a 5-6 conference record and sit one win behind fourth-place MacEwan.
Ashlee Sandiford had a team-leading 10 kills for the Cougars, but the most impressive numbers for the visitors were on the defensive side of the ball.
Taylor Ungar (pictured) piled up 24 digs in the win, while
Satomi Togawa collected 21 digs to go along with 25 assists, four kills, and two aces.
Besides Sandiford's 10 kills, the Cougars also got nine from
Jessica Lerminiaux and seven from
Diana Lumbala.
Brooklyn Reynolds had a team-high four blocks.
Carly Davies had six kills to lead Mount Royal.
The Cougars will look for a weekend sweep on Saturday night as they'll square off with MRU again at Kenyon Court. First serve is set for 5:00 (MST).
NOTES: Ungar's total of 24 digs goes down as the second most by a Cougar in a three-set Canada West match, trailing her own total of 28 set last January in a match at MacEwan ... Togawa's 21 digs is tied for the fourth most by a U of R player in a three-set Canada West match.
