Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball wins two at Tindall tournament

The University of Regina's men's basketball team won two out of three games at the Tindall Invitational Tournament, dropping a close game to Ottawa in the opener before taking back-to-back wins over host Queen's and Memorial.

Friday - Ottawa 89, Regina 86
The Cougars led for much of the fourth quarter, but three-pointers by Calvin Epistola and Kevin Civil on consecutive possessions in the final minute lifted the Gee-Gees to victory. Josiah Thomas led the Cougars with 16 points while Samuel Hillis added 11 and Arinze Emeka-Anyakwo and Brayden Kuski both scored 10.

Saturday - Regina 81, Queen's 75
The Cougars controlled Saturday's game for the first three quarters, but had a fourth-quarter 12-point advantage disappear after Queen's went on a 15-5 run to tie it up with a minute and a half to go. But the Cougars tightened up defensively and didn't allow a field goal for the final four minutes of the game, and Samuel Hillis, Carter Millar, and Benjamin Hillis all hit a pair of free throws in the last 45 seconds to put the game away. Samuel Hillis led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds for the Cougars.

Sunday - Regina 78, Memorial 74
Regina conceded just two field goals in the last seven minutes, both of which came in the final seconds with the outcome all but decided. The Cougars went on a 9-1 run to turn what had been a one-point deficit into a seven-point advantage late in the game. Millar again led the Cougars in scoring with 20 points, while Kuski poured in 16 off the bench and Matt Barnard added 14.

The tournament represented the final non-conference games for the Cougars, who will now have a weekend off while preparing for the Canada West openers at home against UBC on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.
