The University of Regina's women's volleyball team suffered a three-set road loss to MacEwan on Friday night in Edmonton.
The most tightly contested set was the second, which saw the Griffins pull out a 27-25 win. The Cougars went down 24-22 but were able to come back with back-to-back kills by
Diana Lumbala and
Britt Davis, and a Davis kill also extended the set after MacEwan went up 25-24. But the Griffins' fourth set point was the charm, as the home side got a block to give them a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.
MacEwan opened the match with a 25-15 win in the first, and after the tight win in the second the Griffins closed out the match with a 25-14 victory in the third.
Lauren Holmes led MacEwan with 13 kills while Hailey Cornelis, McKenna Stevenson, and Carly Weber each chipped in with seven to help the Griffins (1-2) earn their first Canada West victory of the young season.
Davis also had 13 kills for the Cougars to tie Holmes for the match lead. Regina falls to 1-2 with the loss.
The two teams will play again on Saturday night in Edmonton. Match time is set for 5:00 PM.
