Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Cougars stopped by Saskatchewan in opening game of quarterfinals

The University of Regina's men's basketball team surrendered 62 second-half points as the Saskatchewan Huskies took a 99-68 victory over the Cougars in the opening game of a best-of-three Canada West quarterfinal series on the U of S campus.

The Cougars were within five points of Saskatchewan late in the third, but the Huskies closed out the quarter on an 11-2 run and led by double digits the rest of the way. The score got out of hand late, as Saskatchewan scored 14 straight points over a three-minute span to push the lead over 30.

"Full credit to them – they were better in every aspect of the game," Cougars head coach Steve Burrows said. "The good news for us is that this game didn't happen last Friday, so I think we get to play again tomorrow and try to improve our rebounding, shooting, passing, scoring, defending, and coaching. We got exactly what we deserved against a real good basketball team tonight."

The tandem of Alexander Dewar and Lawrence Moore led Saskatchewan with 25 points each. Moore also had nine rebounds and five assists, while J.T. Robinson (12 points) and Chan De Ciman (11) also scored in double figures.

Carter Millar led the Cougars in both scoring and rebounding, finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds. Samuel Hillis added 14 points and six boards in the loss.

The Cougars and Saskatchewan will clash again on Friday night at the Physical Activity Complex in Saskatoon. Game time is set for 8:00.
