Jessica Lerminiaux tied for the game high with 14 kills and hit .237, but it wasn't enough as the University of Regina's women's volleyball team lost in three straight sets to the Brandon Bobcats on Saturday night.
After losing to Brandon on Friday night, the Cougars came out looking to turn the tables on the Bobcats early in the second match of the weekend series. Thanks to three consecutive points on a run that included a
Diana Lumbala kill and a
Brittany Rousseaux ace, the Cougars had a set point at 24-23. But the Bobcats responded with two straight points of their own, and made good on their second set point as a Nicole Ashauer kill gave the home side a 27-25 win.
Brandon (4-12) finished off the second set with three straight points for a 25-21 win, and clinched the match with a 25-19 victory in the third.
The Bobcats were led by Rayvn Wiebe's 14 kills and 13 digs, while Danielle Larocque and Deserae Unger both had seven kills and Jamie Bain finished with 33 assists.
Besides Lerminiaux's 14 kills, the Cougars also got six from Lumbala and five from both
Britt Davis and
Emma Matheson.
Elizabeth Tooth had 29 assists and 11 digs, while
Sierra Parris-Kruger also had 11 digs.
The Cougars (2-14) will have next weekend off before returning to the court at home against Saskatchewan on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25.
