The University of Regina's women's soccer team scored a 7-0 win over Brandon on Saturday afternoon in an exhibition game at the U of R Field.
Â
Allyson Schneider and
Sally Bachmann both had a pair of goals for the Cougars with singles coming from
Peyton Enns,
Kyra Vibert, and
Grace Miller.
Â
"What I was really excited about is seeing the principles that we've been working on in training come out in a game environment," Cougars interim head coach
Astrid Baecker said. "For me as a coach, that makes me really pleased that the players are trusting the process and taking advantage of the environment that we are able to have with our exhibition games this weekend, to try the things we are doing in training."
Â
It only took the Cougars five minutes to get on the board thanks to a
Sally Bachmann finish off a nice pass from in tight by
Peyton Enns. The Cougars followed that up with two goals in quick succession, first by
Allyson Schneider and then by Bachmann for her second of the match. The Cougars took a 4-0 lead at the half after Enns knocked home a rebound, and Vibert, Miller, and Schneider all scored in the second half for the home side.
Â
"I was really excited, we have Mallory Outerbridge, who is working with our frontline and we really put some pressure on our forwards in training this week to finish our crosses, to identify one-on-one opportunities and Mallory has been giving them the confidence to go to the net," Coach Baecker said when asked about the standouts. "The fact that we had a lot of our goals from our front three, our forwards and Mallory as an assistant coach for me would be our standouts."
Â
Allyson Ford and second half sub
Cassandra De Amaral shared a clean sheet in net for the Cougars.
Â
The two teams play again tomorrow at 3:00 PM on the U of R Field in the Cougars' final game before beginning their regular season next week.
