Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars run win streak to four with 5-1 win over MacEwan

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team completed a weekend sweep and registered its fourth consecutive victory as they took out MacEwan by a 4-1 score on Saturday afternoon at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • MacEwan's Marc Pasemko opened the scoring on the power play with a one-timer late in the first period, but that turned out to be the Griffins' only goal of the contest.
  • The Cougars tied it up midway through the second period with a power play goal of their own, as Tyler Heidt unleashed a rocket from the right boards for his fifth goal of the season.
  • Bryce Platt scored what would be the game-winning goal late in the second, pouncing on a loose puck in the slot and snapping home his first of the season.
  • Regina scored two quick ones midway through the third to all but seal the win. Eric Pearce knocked home a rebound eight minutes in, then Eric Houk continued his recent sensational run with a goal just two minutes after that.

NOTES
  • The win leapfrogs the Cougars (7-11-1) into sixth place in the Canada West standings as they pass Manitoba for the conference's final playoff berth with four weeks still remaining in the regular season.
  • After registering one point in his first 15 Canada West games, Houk is now riding a four-game goal-scoring streak and has six points in those four games.
  • Adam Evanoff was spectacular yet again for the Cougars, stopping 37 of MacEwan's 39 shots while registering his sixth Canada West victory of the season.
  • Midseason addition Logan Barlage registered his first point with the Cougars, assisting on Platt's game winner in the second period.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars are back at home with a rare Thursday/Friday series next week at The Co-operators Centre. They'll meet the Canada West-leading and No. 1-ranked Calgary Dinos at 7:00 PM on both nights.
