Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Cougars fall to No. 1 Calgary

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's men's hockey team lost 8-2 to top-ranked Calgary on Friday night at The Co-operators Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first period was all Calgary. The Dinos put five past Cougars starting goalie Curtis Meger as Connor Gutenberg, Arjun Atwal, Riley Stotts, Josh Maser, and Jake Gricius all scored in the opening frame.
  • The Cougars were able to generate a bit of a response in the second. Jackson Doucet scored off a beautiful feed from Jake Fletcher early in the period, then Brady Pouteau scored on a shot from the left point that deflected off a Calgary player.
  • Regina not only scored the second period's only two goals, but also held a 12-2 advantage in shots. But that momentum didn't last as Calgary got goals from Gutenberg, Marty Westhaver, and Jordan Xavier to seal the win in the third.

NOTES
  • Sean Strange had a four-point night for Calgary, all of which came on assists. Atwal and Gricius both had a pair of assists to end up with three-point outings.
  • Brennan Riddle, Scott Mickoski, and Fletcher all registered assists for the Cougars.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars will hit the road next weekend for a pair of games in Edmonton against the University of Alberta. They'll face the Golden Bears at 7:00 PM on both Friday and Saturday.
