Cougars open weekend with four-set loss to Winnipeg

QUICKLY
  • The University of Regina's women's volleyball team fell in four sets to the Winnipeg Wesmen on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport on the U of R campus.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Winnipeg took the opening two sets, winning the first by a 25-17 margin and rolling to a 25-12 victory in the second.
  • The Cougars had a nice response late in the third to push the match to a fourth set. They trailed Winnipeg 23-20, but scored the next five points on a run which included two Jordy McEachern service aces and took the set 25-23.
  • Winnipeg clinched the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth, improving their Canada West record to 12-5.

NOTES
  • Bailey Balaberda had a team-high 13 kills for Regina and added 10 digs for a double-double.
  • McKenzie Keibel collected a team-leading 16 digs for the Cougars while McEachern dug up 14 attacks.
  • Winnipeg's Selva Planincic led all players with 14 kills and had just one error while hitting .500 for the match.

NEXT UP
  • The Cougars (2-15) will host Winnipeg again on Saturday night at the CKHS. First serve is set for 6:00.
