QUICKLY
The No. 10-ranked University of Regina's women's basketball team was defeated 66-52 by Trinity Western on Saturday night at the Langley Events Centre in Langley, B.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trinity Western took an eight-point lead into halftime and though the Cougars got back-to-back buckets from rookies
Kyu Fust and
Ryenn Schutz to make it a one-possession game early in the third, the Spartans pulled away from there.
Trinity Western answered those two Regina buckets with an 11-1 run to put them up by 13 points late in the third. The Cougars briefly cut the lead to single digits early in the third, but a 9-0 TWU run over the next six minutes all beat sealed the win for the home side.
NOTES
Fust and
Jade Belmore led the Cougars with 11 points apiece.
Schutz continued her strong debut weekend with a seven-point, nine-rebound outing.
NEXT UP
The Cougars will head right back to British Columbia next weekend as they'll start the Canada West schedule with four consecutive away games. They'll play Thompson Rivers on Friday and Saturday in Kamloops.
