QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's basketball team completed a weekend sweep with an 83-56 win over Thompson Rivers on Saturday night in Kamloops, B.C.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a tight first quarter, the Cougars simply exploded in the second. They outscored TRU by a 30-6 margin in the quarter, turning what had been a three-point lead into a 54-27 advantage at the half.Â
- Dayna Pearce and Jade Belmore were the catalysts in that huge second quarter, with Pearce hitting three triples and scoring 11 points in the period and Belmore finishing with 7 points.
- The Cougars cruised to victory in the second half, pushing the lead to 38 at one point in the fourth quarter.
NOTES
- Belmore was 9-for-15 from the floor and finished with a team-leading 20 points.
- Pearce hit all five of her three-point attempts without a miss, finishing with 17 points and 7 rebounds.
- Ryenn Schutz had the second double-double of her young U of R career, scoring a season-high 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting and pulling down 10 rebounds.
- The Cougars improve to 2-2 with the victory.
NEXT UP
After opening up the Canada West schedule with a bye week and two road weekends, the Cougars will finally host their home openers next Friday and Saturday. They'll entertain Fraser Valley with a 6:00 PM start on both nights at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport.
