Meger saves 41, but Cougars fall 4-0 to No. 5 UBC

QUICKLY
Curtis Meger had a 41-save performance for the University of Regina's men's hockey team on Friday night, but the Cougars were defeated 4-0 by No. 5-ranked UBC at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • UBC opened the scoring after Jack Wismer sent a pass from the right boards across to Jake Lee, who put in his seventh of the season to put the Thunderbirds up six minutes into the contest.
  • Cyle McNabb extended the UBC lead with a power play goal with seven minutes to go in the second, taking a drop pass from Lee and beating Meger with a wrist shot.
  • UBC all but put the game away with two quick goals early in the third. Liam Kindree scored his 11th of the season, then assisted on Ty Thorpe's power play goal which gave the Thunderbirds their fourth of the contest.

NOTES
  • The game featured 12 total power play opportunities. The Cougars were 0-for-8, while UBC was 2-for-4.
  • UBC finished with a 45-12 shot advantage as they outshot Regina 13-5 in the first, 14-5 in the second, and 18-2 in the third.
  • Friday's game marked the second time in four starts this season that Meger has had at least 40 saves. He also had 53 saves against this same UBC team back on Oct. 7 in Regina.
