Cougars roll to big win over Brandon

QUICKLY
The University of Regina's women's basketball team cruised to a 97-55 victory over Brandon on Friday night at the Centre for Kinesiology, Health & Sport in Regina.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Cougars led Friday's game from wire to wire. They scored the first seven points of the game and took a 24-16 lead after the opening period, then took complete control of the contest in the second quarter.
  • Dayna Pearce kickstarted a 19-4 run for Regina, which turned the eight-point lead into a 23-point cushion. They led 57-31 at the half, then outscored Brandon by a 23-11 margin in the third. They continued to add to the lead in the fourth, going up by 45 at one point before Brandon scored some late points with the outcome long since decided.

NOTES
  • Jade Belmore led the way for the Cougars once again, piling up a game-high 20 points while also collecting 9 rebounds and 7 assists.
  • Dayna Pearce scored 17 points, Kyu Fust had a season-high 13, and Maddy Seida ended up with 10.
  • All 12 players dressed for the Cougars played at least 10 minutes in Friday's win.
  • Mya Cameron led Brandon with 15 points.

The two teams will meet again on Saturday night at the CKHS. Game time is again scheduled for 6:00 PM.
